If you’ve ever picked up a CK Maceworks steel mace and noticed the handle is hollow...
That's intentional. It’s by design.
In this post (and the video below), we’re breaking down exactly why our maces are built this way and how it impacts your training in all the right ways.
🔩 The Point of a Mace Is the Lever Arm
A mace isn’t just a heavy stick. It’s a long lever, and the real magic happens when the majority of the weight is loaded at the end of that lever. That’s what creates the unique, powerful training effect mace swings are known for: rotational force, shoulder and grip demand, core engagement, and full-body control.
If the handle were solid and heavy, you’d be shifting the center of mass away from the end—which defeats the whole purpose.
A hollow handle keeps the weight concentrated where it matters most: at the head of the mace.
⚖️ Why It Works (From a Physics Standpoint)
The further the weight is from your hands (aka the pivot point), the more torque it generates during a swing. That’s what makes even 20–30lbs feel like a full-body challenge.
A hollow handle ensures that the lever is long but lightweight, maximizing the difference between your grip point and the loaded end, which increases the training effect without needing to overdo the weight.
This is exactly why our maces swing better, smoother, and more powerfully than a lot of the solid-handle options out there.
