Try This Mace Flow Combo for More Single-Arm Volume (Without Burning Out)

If you’ve been working on your single arm mace swings, especially the 360s or 10-2s...you’ve probably hit a wall with fatigue.

It’s one thing to swing a mace with two hands for reps. It’s another to maintain clean, powerful form with one hand for extended time.

That’s where this week’s video comes in.

👇 Watch it here:

This combo, called the Triple Double, was created by Josh Wincey (aka @grapplingwithtype1), and it’s become one of our favorite ways to build up controlled volume without burning out early.

What’s the “Triple Double”?

The format is simple but powerful:

  • Single Arm 360

  • Two Handed 360

  • Single Arm 10-2
    → Switch direction

  • Single Arm 360

  • Two Handed 360

  • Single Arm 10-2

Repeat that cycle for time, for rounds, or until your grip gives out—your choice.

Why It Works

Single arm swings are essential for mace mastery. They build unilateral control, shoulder integrity, core engagement, and grip strength. But going all in on single arm reps too early can fry your nervous system, throw your form out the window, and even put a little too much load on your connective tissues too quickly. Slow progression is key with mace and club work -- and this complex helps.

This combo cleverly inserts a two handed swing in the middle, giving you just enough of a reset to keep going with good quality. You get:

✅ More swing time
✅ Better rhythm
✅ Smarter volume accumulation
✅ Less burnout

And... you have to use your brain. Keeping a complex organized while working hard physically is a chore for the mind.

Who Should Try It

If you're comfortable with the basics (two hand 360s and have at least dabbled in single-arm swings) this is a great next step. It’s simple enough to learn quickly but challenging enough to humble you.

Whether you’re chasing heavier swings, more flow options, or just looking to get more from your mace training, the Triple Double is worth a few rounds in your next session.
