If you’ve ever felt a slight rattle mid-swing or questioned whether your plates are fully secured—this post is for you.
One of the key features of CK Maceworks gear is our screw in handle system, which uses compression to lock in your weight plates. And at the center of that design? A small but mighty piece of rubber.

The Rubber Washer: Small Part, Big Job
Each CK loading pin comes with a rubber washer glued in place. That washer goes on the bottom of your weight stack.
Why?
Because when you screw the handle down, it compresses the plates against that washer, creating a locked-in, torque-tight stack. It’s the pressure that holds everything stable—not just friction.
Think of it like a clamp: the rubber compresses, the plates get squeezed, and everything stays in place—even under high-speed swings.
What If the Washer Comes Loose?
No big deal.
The washer is super-glued to help indicate which side goes where, but it’s not essential for function. If yours ever pops off, you can still train safely—but the compression is way more consistent with it in place.
Nate trained without one for six months when CK was first prototyping gear. It works. But with the washer? It works better.
Quick Loading Steps:
-
Stack your plates with the rubber washer at the bottom.
-
Align your CK handle and start screwing it in.
-
Once snug, apply some torque—foot on the base if needed—to fully compress the plates.
-
You’re ready to swing.
This is one of those subtle details that separates average gear from elite gear.
The washer loading pin system makes CK Maceworks gear:
-
Safer
-
More secure under swing torque
-
Easier to load precisely (no wobbly plates or loose stacks)
It’s all part of our obsession with functional design that grows with you.
