When it comes to mace training, handle length matters—a lot.
A mace that’s too long can feel heavy, awkward, and unbalanced.
Too short? You miss out on the leverage that makes this tool so effective in the first place.
That’s why at CK Maceworks, we don’t do one-size-fits-all.
We build your mace to match your height and body geometry, and we’ve dialed in a custom sizing chart based on real world testing, experience, and biomechanics.
In this post (and in the video below), we’re breaking down how to choose the right length mace for your build—and why it matters for your performance.
🔍 Why Mace Length Is So Important
The steel mace is a long-lever tool, which means the further the weight is from your hands, the more torque it creates during swings like the 360 or 10-to-2. This is what builds rotational power, grip strength, shoulder mobility, and total-body control.
But if the mace isn’t sized properly to your body:
-
You’ll struggle to control the arc of your swing
-
You’ll compensate with poor mechanics or overuse certain muscles
-
And your training will be less effective (and possibly less safe)
Proper sizing = proper force transfer.
📏 Our Custom Size Chart (Built from Experience)
CK Maceworks offers multiple handle lengths to match your height and training goals. We’ve refined this chart over years of training, testing, and building maces for athletes of all sizes.
Here’s the simplified guide:
Note: arm length, swing style, and preference also play a role, and we’re happy to help you dial it in.
⚖️ What Happens When the Length Is Off?
Nate breaks this down in our latest video (embedded below), but here’s the quick rundown:
-
A mace that’s too long for your height will pull you off balance and reduce control during swings. You’ll likely rely more on your arms and shoulders and less on proper trunk rotation. It'll also feel like it's coming way too close to some floor contact on the back swing, or maybe even hitting your lower legs.
-
A mace that’s too short won’t provide enough torque, making your swings feel more like presses or lifts—and taking away the benefits of a true long lever tool. You also may find that in order position, the head of the mace is directly in front of your face (which is not the safest).
